BACKGROUND

Amy is the Founder of People Stack, a People Professional and proud mother-to-be!

The journey of People Stack began after Amy found herself in a sudden interesting turn of life plans, and a member of the ‘unemployed club’ due to tech layoffs. She was also pregnant.

With a down-turning economy, desert landscape of postings in the tech industry and anxious about seeking a new job knowing there is an upcoming time that she will need leave from work (and the news shared via body changes whether wanted or not), she fell into research-mode and learned how to navigate this foreign landscape.

After countless applications, networking and interviews (between reflections on “the corporate system” and pregnancy research), she was able to land a role, in particular with a seemingly supportive and parent-friendly team at an Engineering Consulting Firm. Out of fear of not being offered the job, Amy navigated offering lower salary expectations (with no idea what the salary ranges are), and added value that she could bring to the table. This she now contributes to the “mother tax”. This, plus a recent announcement by her provincial government in British Columbia, Canada (currently with a 17% pay gap) is proposing to bring pay transparency legislation to light, resulted in taking action and bringing positive change, sooner rather than later.

Amy has a background in recruitment and human resources, with experience in both start-up and large corporations. She has primarily worked in male-dominated industries and is a strong advocate for women in STEM career paths. She is inspired to create a more equitable workplace for her future daughter.

She has a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Guelph and a post-graduate certificate in HR Management from Sheridan College. She is also a Certified Professional in HR (CPHR) and an MBA Candidate from the University Canada West.
